RECAPTURING OUR CULTURE
Available at Rihner's Jewelers 605 Lapalco Blvd., Gretna, (504) 391-0183

When local jeweler Rudy Rihner of Rihner's Jewelers asked me to paint a piece of art that depicts the tragedy created by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana, the first thing that came to mind was, of course, the pelicans, the marsh and our beautiful state! The more I thought about the lives lost and the people and animals affected by the Deep Water Horizon oil spill, the more determined I was to do it. I am really proud of my painting we named "Recapturing our Culture" and especially proud of the colloborative effort between myself and Rudy to create a line of jewelry from the artwork. The collection includes unisex pendants, cuff links, tie tack, lapel pin, ring and bracelet.
As a resident of Plaquemines Parish I have a true love for the Culture so near and dear to the people of Louisiana. I grew up on the east bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. For 13 years I lived in Jefferson Parish until recently when my husband and I built our new home in Myrtle Grove Estates. I can see the base operations for clean up of the oil spill set up at the Myrtle Grove Marina from my balcony. Everyday I see people working so hard to help protect our wetlands. Although it won't measure up to the hard work and effort of our parish president, other leaders, concerned citizens and volunteers, Rudy and I wanted to help out in a way that we are passionate about - jewelry and art!!!
A portion of the proceeds from poster and jewelry sales will be donated to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. .
